Colours

I

f you find yourself dreaming in dark or drab colours, then it could reflect your state of mind. Perhaps you are feeling low, or even depressed. Bright colours, on the other hand, suggest energy, vitality and optimism.

It is important to note whether something stands out in a dream because of its colour. This could be a way of drawing it to your attention.

Below we give some basic meanings of different colours. But remember they may have a different meaning for you - for example, because of some memory you associate with them from your own personal experience.

Red
The colour of energy, blood, fire, passion. If you ‘see red’ in your dreams, ask yourself what it is that may be making you angry.

Orange
The colour of joy, vitality, youth. Ask yourself if your mind and body are in harmony. Could also be a sign that you need to look at your diet, perhaps introduce more ‘orange’ food into it.

Yellow
The colour of the sun, the intellect. Might be an indication that you need to develop your ‘left brain’, for example, by taking a course of some kind. Also a symbol of cowardice, as in ‘yellow streak’.

Green
The colour of nature, abundance, prosperity and hope. Suggests that all is well, you are in a healthy and balanced state. Could also mean that you should proceed with something, as in ‘green for go’ or that a situation is making you jealous, as in ‘green with envy’.

Blue
The colour of wisdom, spirituality, tranquillity. Perhaps a sign that you need to spend time away from the material world, in order to get in touch with your inner self.

Purple
The colour of spiritual power, royalty. If someone appears in purple in your dream, it could indicate that they are a person of authority or high rank.

Black
The colour of power, control. What we fear has power over us, so something that appears in a dream in black may be an indication that we need to acknowledge it or integrate it into our consciousness.

White
The colour of purity, innocence. The light of illumination or revelation. Your light or conscious side, as opposed to your dark or unconscious side. In Eastern cultures may be associated with mourning.

Grey
The colour of neutrality, fear, anxiety. May indicate a reluctance to commit, perhaps because of uncertainty about a situation.

Pink
The colour of love, femininity. If you are looking through rose-coloured glasses at someone, you may not be seeing them as they truly are.
