The Week Ahead by Lisa MoonCat

Monday 21st through Sunday 27th April

Relax. Results don’t happen overnight, and Rome is about to be remade. You’ve got a good plan, and even a few people picked out that you’d like to work with. Now is the time to share the plan with them. They will want to make changes. They are right. If you want to work with experts you have to listen to their advice. Monday that advice seems to stop your forward motion. On Wednesday you get the energy to work and build. Thursday is a better day to talk about the project. Schedule meetings with collaborators and prepare your presentations. Friday the advice you’ve received earlier in the week starts to make sense, and you’re able to integrate the changes into the plan. Saturday has stability on display. You can see the pieces and people you can rely on. Take note of the people who are solid and include them in your plan.

From last week

Monday 14th through Sunday 20th April

Get out your game plan and your big red pen. Your end goal is about to change again. The eclipse in Libra on Tuesday morning will shake you to your core. Generally Virgo is not a super social sign. You’re just fine trucking along on the path to perfection on your own. Along the way you meet some interesting folks, and sometimes they become friends, but in the end your journey is your own. This week you realize that no man is an island. You need to put some people in contact with one another and be present to help foster the relationship. Wednesday you’ve got some extra make it happen energy to put this together. Friday you get another burst of energy to help people. Capitalize on these moments. Bringing people together helps you achieve your goals. Sunday the results of collaboration start to show.

You may also wish to read your Moon sign and Rising sign if you know them.

The Four Elements

What is Astrology - Four Elements image

The four elements in astrology are Fire, Earth, Air and Water and each of the signs of the zodiac falls into one of these four groups. Thus you have three Fire signs - Aries, Leo and Sagittarius; three Earth signs - Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn; three Air signs - Gemini, Libra and Aquarius; and three Water signs - Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Fire is intuitive, energetic, enthusiastic, spontaneous, optimistic and confident. The Fire signs believe in themselves and the future and are impatient with anything that holds them back. They can also be egocentric and insensitive to the needs and feelings of others. They are the performers of the zodiac and get on best with the Air signs whose ideas stimulate their creativity.

Earth is practical, realistic, materialistic, nature-loving, sensual and persistent. The Earth signs are cautious and conservative and value security and things that last. They can also be pessimistic and resistant to change. They are the producers of the zodiac and get on best with the Water signs whose imagination and supportiveness nurture them.

Air is intellectual, curious, objective, sociable, connected and mentally restless. The Air signs are easily bored and their need for stimulation can get them into mischief. They can also be cold and unfeeling. They are the thinkers of the zodiac and get on best with the Fire signs whose strength and positivity inspire them to put their ideas in action.

Water is emotional, sensitive, sympathetic, imaginative, creative and private. The Water signs need other people to whom they relate deeply and from the heart. They can also be vulnerable and unstable and prey to irrational fears. They are the empaths of the zodiac and get on best with the Earth signs whose steadiness and solidity ground and comfort them.

Everyone's birth chart is a mixture of the four elements although usually one or more will be stronger.

What's in the Stars?

Zodiac signs are ancient symbolism. Many people take into account the astrological positioning of the sun, moon and planets, and how that relates to their own astrological signs. The signs are determined by major constellations, and their locations in the quadrants of the sky. The full moon is in a different sign each month, creating a focus for personal ritual and understanding. Knowing the sign of the sun, moon, and the planets at your time of birth makes it easier to prepare for day to day life, and understand the bigger forces at work in the world.

To find out your personal astrological signs, you'll need to know the time of day, date and place you were born. Having a Birth Chart drawn by someone who studies this field extensively can be very enlightening. There are programs you can buy that will draw it up. Some free internet sites will draw one up for you too. Consulting with a knowledgeable person who can look at all the details and aspects can be especially enlightening. All the same, a free chart is a good starting point, and will be able to tell you accurately where the stars were when you were born. The most important three aspects of understanding yourself in relation to the stars and planets are your Sun Sign, your Moon Sign and your Rising Sign.

Your Sun Sign represents the basic aspects of yourself, your personality and your idea of yourself. It is determined by what quadrant of the sky the sun was in when you were born, which changes monthly. Your rising sign represents how you interpret those, how you feel inside, and how you relate to the world. This is determined by the constellation that was rising in the sky as you were born, which changes every few hours. Your moon sign represents your emotions, your heritage, and your daily habits or need for routine. This is determined by the position of the moon in the sky at the time you were born, and changes every 2 days.

There are 12 signs in the zodiac. The zodiac begins at Aries and ends at Pisces. Each sign has an element and a modality and particular qualities associated with it. The elements correspond to the four elements used in ritual: Earth, Air, Fire, Water.

The modalities of the zodiac are Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. They correspond to the elements. Cardinal is the beginning or motivating mode of an element, fixed is the unchanging or strong mode of that element, and mutable is the changing, transforming, or ending mode of that element. For example, Aries is the Cardinal aspect of fire, Leo the fixed, and Sagittarius the mutable. Aries are great idea people, always there to get things started, to spark the spirit. Leos are the grandiose, larger than life aspect of fire, like a bonfire. Sagittarius are those who use their fire to change the world around them, like cooking coals, or the blue flame of a torch.

Virgo - a glimpse for 2014

This year is perfect for refining the big picture. Where do you want to be in 10 years? 5 years? Next year? Start there and work backwards. If you get to what you need to do in the next ten minutes to get there, you've gone too far. Navigating the first part of 2014 requires kindness and teamwork. You are not an island, and the more inspiring people you have on your team sharing your dream the faster you'll get where you're going.

March brings your need for community and independence into conflict. Remember that the people in your life should be there as support structures. Address problems with drama causers before April. A preemptive strike could save you from actually burning bridges.

Virgo is particularly susceptible to the major changes taking place on a societal level this summer. Don't stick your head in the sand. Be a leader. Pay attention. Pick a couple of causes and support them with all your heart. July will offer some strong opportunities to people who have put their beliefs on display. Don't be shy, get out there and tell them why you're right!

September brings people knocking down your door for advice and support. Really they just want your approval. They don't really need serious action, they just need a kind word of encouragement. By the end of 2014 you should be feeling pretty satisfied with the amount of progress towards your plans. You'll be ready to revise and double your efforts to make 2015 even better!

Character Traits for Virgo

Virgo is the Changing Earth of the zodiac, with the sign of the Virgin. Virgos are analysts. They are incredibly detail oriented. They notice the slightest deviations in data sets and understand the impact of subtle changes over long periods of time. Virgos are like a diamond; clear, strong, multi-faceted, and always working towards perfection.

Virgos can see problems coming from a mile. They are generally not surprised by sticky situations, and often side step them altogether. They don't mind doing the dirty work of research, but they do mind getting mud all over their good clothes. There are play clothes or work clothes that are appropriate for that. Virgos want everything to be the best it can be, so if these are clothes to get muddy they'll jump right in!

Virgo doesn't want to be second or third, they want to be number one. The best of the best of the best. They understand that true perfection is multifaceted. And that all of those facets must work together to create a bigger picture. They are willing to look at all the factors and bring them into alignment.

Virgo people are often aesthetic beauty or health oriented. They know what real beauty is, and real beauty is healthy because it's sustainable. They understand the interrelated natural systems of health and environment. They are graceful in transitional times. If you're struggling with change, get a Virgo on your problem, and see if they can help you find a more long term solution.

The downside to the Virgo beautiful mind is a tendency towards perfectionism. Virgo dislikes nebulous solutions, or solutions that don't solve the problem completely. They may take a temporary compromise, but eventually they will become dissatisfied until they are allowed to pursue their idea of perfection. Virgos hold themselves to very high standards, which can make them overly critical. They see flaws in any plan, even if they're minor. Virgos must remember that not everyone can meet the same high standards that they set for themselves. Virgos comes off critical and perfectionist, but is really just an extreme idealist. They really just want the best for themselves and everyone else.
